6-Week Session | April 24 – May 29

(Class dates: 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15, 5/22, 5/29)

This will be our final homeschool clay class for the school year.

A hands-on pottery class for homeschool students ages 10 and up. Over 6 weeks, students will learn foundational clay techniques while creating both functional and sculptural ceramic pieces in a shared studio environment. Students will be guided step-by-step but are encouraged to make creative choices and develop their own ideas. Skills build week to week, helping students gain confidence and independence as they work.

What Students Will Learn

• Clay preparation and wedging

• Handbuilding techniques (pinch, coil, slab)

• Forming functional pieces (bowls, cups, etc.)

• Surface design: carving, texture, and decoration

• Glazing and finishing techniques

• Introduction to wheel throwing (when students demonstrate focus and readiness)

• Studio care, cleanup, and respect for materials and shared space

What’s Included

• All clay, tools, glazes, and kiln firing

• Step-by-step group instruction and demonstrations

• Individual feedback during work time

• Small class size for focused learning

• Finished pieces to take home

Class Structure

• 1.5 hours of guided instruction + 30 minutes of cleanup

• Projects may take multiple weeks to complete

• Emphasis on process, creativity, and exploration

Student Expectations (Required for Enrollment)

Students must be able to:

• Listen to up to 15 minutes of instruction without being disruptive

• Follow directions and participate in class activities

• Communicate clearly and respond appropriately to the instructor and classmates

• Ask for help when needed and express their needs verbally

• Work independently or collaboratively depending on the project

• Respect the studio, tools, materials, and the work of others

Important: Our studio contains many fragile and in-progress pieces. Students must remain aware of their surroundings and handle all materials and artwork with care.

Due to limited staffing, this class is designed for students who can participate in a group setting with minimal one-on-one support. Parents are encouraged to contact us in advance with questions to determine whether the class is a good fit for their child.

Tuition

$270 + tax for the full 6-week session

What to Bring

Wear clothes that can get messy—clay washes out, but we do get dirty!
