This 4-day wheel-throwing camp is designed for teens and tweens who are ready to learn real pottery skills in a focused, creative studio environment. Whether they’re total beginners or have dabbled in clay before, students will receive hands-on instruction and guidance as they explore the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel.
Campers will:

Wheel Throwing

Embark on a creative journey with this 4-week immersive class designed to introduce beginners to the art of wheel throwing. Whether you're brand new to pottery or looking to sharpen your skills, this course will guide you through foundational techniques and help you create functional pieces while building confidence on the wheel.
What You’ll Learn
Master the Basics: Hands-on instruction in key techniques like wedging, centering, pulling, and trimming.
Create Functional Pottery: Make bowls, cups, small vases, and more while developing consistency and control.
Refine Your Skills: Improve your craftsmanship through feedback and occasional cut-throughs to better understand the structure of your work.

Handmade Dinner Plate Set Workshop
$85 per person (includes 2 plates + glazing)
✨ Create Your Own Dinner Plate Set – Functional, beautiful, handmade.
Design and build your own unique ceramic plate set—just in time for cozy fall dinners or holiday hosting. In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn hand-building techniques to shape and decorate two dinner-sized plates (or swap one for a matching side plate or bowl).
What’s included:
Clay, tools, and instruction
Stamping and surface design options (you can go rustic, modern, or decorative!)
Firing of two pieces
Optional: Glazing session later or choose from studio glaze options
Light refreshments: apple cider, shortbread, cozy fall playlist
Ages: 14+
Add-on: $20 for a 3rd plate or matching bowl
Delivery/Pickup: Glazed pieces ready by early December (great for gifting!)

This 4-day handbuilding-focused camp teaches young artists to sculpt, pinch, coil, and slab their own imaginative clay creations—from animals and creatures to mugs and mini planters.

All participants from our June camps (both Little Creators and Wheel Throwing for Teens & Tweens) are invited to show off their favorite pieces during our Summer Clay Camp Art Show on Friday, August 1st. Families and friends are welcome to join us at the studio to celebrate the young artists’ creativity!

MadeBy Summer Clay Camp: Wheel Throwing for Teens & Tweens (Ages 11–16)
Cost: $200 (Includes all materials & firing)
Location: MadeBy Pottery Studio, 2805 Main Street, Hurricane, WV
This 4-day wheel-throwing camp is designed for teens and tweens who are ready to learn real pottery skills in a focused, creative studio environment. Whether they’re total beginners or have dabbled in clay before, students will receive hands-on instruction and guidance as they explore the art of throwing on the potter’s wheel.
Campers will:
🌀 Learn how to center, shape, and refine clay on the wheel
🏺 Make functional pottery like bowls, mugs, and vases
✂️ Trim and prepare their pieces for firing
🎨 Glaze their pottery using vibrant, food-safe finishes
🔥 Pick up their completed work 2–3 weeks later

A vibrant, hands-on clay experience—in just 2 hours!
Short on time but big on creativity? Rainbow Clay Express is a condensed 2-hour version of our full Celebrate Color workshop—perfect for anyone who still wants to dive into the world of richly pigmented colored clay without committing to the full 3 hours.
You’ll choose between hand-building or wheel throwing, and create your own rainbow-inspired piece using beautifully tinted clay. It’s a joyful, fast-paced session where you’ll explore bold color, playful forms, and the freedom to express yourself through clay.
